What i'm looking forward to this term

This term I am looking forward to Sport. This is because we are learning handball wich I have never done before, its also really fun. I highly recomend you learn how to play it because YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING!

Volcano poster

 All through term one my class have been doing geology! We had to make a poster for natural disasters and I chose to do volcanoes. On the poster we had to put ten facts, a picture of the thing we had chosen to do and of course a title. Here is the poster:

 

This is the facts; 

Inside the earth it is really hot so some rocks melt and turn into magma since magma is lighter than rock it rises and goes inside magma chambers. Eventually some of the magma pushes through vents to the earth surface which causes volcanoes to erupt.

The danger area around the volcano has a 20 mile radiusMore than 80% of the ground is volcanic in origin

There are three major kinds of volcanoes; cinder cones, composite volcanoes and shield volcanoes.

Cinder cones are formed by blobs of congealed lava coming out of a vent, as the gassy lava is blown roughly into the air it breaks into small pieces that turn into cinders and fall down around the vent to create a circular or oval cone. 

Composite volcanoes (also called stratovolcanoes)are named for their composition. These volcanoes are created from layers of pyroclastic material, including lava, pumice, volcanic ash, and tephra. The layers stack on each other with each eruption. 

When volcanoes erupt they can trigger tsunamis and earthquakes.

A shield volcano is a type of volcano named for resembling a warrior's shield lying on the ground.

The sound of an eruption volcano can be quiet and hissing or explosive and booming. 

There are 1,500 active volcanoes in the world.

How do birds fly?

Since I have always wondered "How do birds fly?" I decided to do some research and this is what I found out:

• Birds have hollow bones that are very light and strong.

• Their feathers are light and the shape of their wings is perfect for catching the air.

• Their lungs are great at getting oxygen and they are very efficient for flying over very long distances without getting tired.

• They eat lots of high-energy food.

• When a bird is flying, their wings are flat so that the air flows easily around it in the direction the bird flies (like your hand cutting through the water or air). However as the air flows over the wing, the air flows faster over the top than the bottom because the wing is slightly curved on top. This means there will be more air on the bottom side, because the air is moving more slowly. When there is more air on the bottom that leads to a push and since the push happens against that wide flat part of the wing, this push lifts the bird. So that means a bird's wing slices in the air in the forward direction and gets pushed up from below the result is a flying bird!

Top Team

Today we did Top Team. Top Team is a really fun activity where a group of people do the set challenges against another team and they get points for lots of different things. Some of the activites were "catapult", "burst pipe" and  "faulty towers". All these activites were really fun but I won't tell you how to do them so that it is a surprise for you if you ever do it. The good thing about Top Team is the skills you learn/practise and the fact that it is fun. The skills you learn/practise are teamwork, communication and exersise all those are very good for things in future. Here are some photos of our school doing some of the activites.

All in all we had a really fun day!

The mystery of the mystery of M.R Bonsto

 I am writing a horror story about a young orphaned boy on an adventure with his friends Blue the husky Griffin the cat and Rocky the cockatoo. I am writing it out of interest at home and at school. Here is a snippet.

"Then after what seemed like ours but really was only minutes the party made it to the kitchen. It was musty, damp, cobwebby and distantly smelt of rotten fish. “This really is a horrible place but i'm so thirsty I think I'd better drink out of these taps”. So Jack twisted the nob and this strange red liquid came out. “AGGH”. Screamed Jack. “It’s BLOOD”! And sure enough it was blood. “Let’s get out of here”. Advised Jack. “good idea, good idea”. “Meow”. “Woof”. Agreed Rocky, Griffin and Blue. 

So without saying a word they tiptoed along until they came to what looked like a library “noting here”. Announced Jack. So they left. But if Jack had two good eyes he would have seen the eyes on the books staring out at him… "

Funny Bunny

 I have made a poem it is called funny bunny I hope you like it,

Once there was a bunny

who ate to much honey,

he had a sweet tooth

and was rather uncooth,

for he ate with his paws

which broke a few laws,

but eating all that honey was a definite mistake

because his whole tummy it started to shake,

and then there was a BOOM!

The bunny had just gone KABOOM!

Where there was bunny 

there was just HONEY!
